Weather looks Grim

I received this email this morning from the Marathon organisers:

Wednesday, April 11 - As the Boston Athletic Association continues to make preparations for Monday's Boston Marathon, we are monitoring the upcoming weather conditions forecast for this area. Based on the National Weather Service's most recent report and in cooperation with the Executive Office of Public Safety (Commonwealth of Massachusetts) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, together with the eight cities and towns along the 26.2-mile marathon route, we are planning for likely heavy rain and windy conditions on race day. However, all race day plans remain the same. The Boston Athletic Association advises participants in Monday's race to plan accordingly for their run, bringing with them gear and apparel to suit the conditions. The B.A.A. will continue to update its web site as necessary.

  2. Hi Alan,
I've just been watching the weather forecast for Boston on CNN with Kathryn; it's no wonder you called it grim!
I hope it'll at least be fine enough for you to run, only 1 day and 52 minutes to go now. I just watched the live video of the course, I hope to see some bits of it on TV on Tuesday.
Good luck, and don't push yourself TOO hard,
    Christine.

  3. Alan, I hope you'll follow the advice in the Boston Marathon about what to wear; the layers of non-cotton clothing, the beanie and gloves, and that you'll recognise the signs of hypothermia if they develop and do something about it.
It must be really exciting for you now that the race is just about here, and I hope the weather lifts in time, but please be careful!
    love and best wishes,
    Christine.

    Hey Alan
Our whole family will be thinking about you while you're running your marathon....

MMADs say- "race plan: one foot after the other" and the children on the 6ft track sing "left, left, left-right-left, every step we're getting closer".

Don't forget that the little blonde haired boy, with long legs, will be running beside you.

I hope you packed a balaclava.
    Best luck matey!!

    Hi Alan,

Well its 1.20pm Tuesday morning and I am thinking of you and Stefeka, running this race in the pouring, windy rain. I have been trying to find it on Fox but unfortunately its not televised.

All the best and have fun.

    Hiya Alan,

Well at the 15km mark your EST is 2:57:17 which is just sensational.

Just make sure you have a nice cold beer or a nice warm spirit at the end.

    Cheers

  10. Hi Alan,
Congratulations on a great time in the race! Well done!

I noticed that your time was only about 20 minutes less than the winner's until you got to about the 30 mile mark. That was fantastic!

The photos on boston.com (newspaper) were great to give us an idea of conditions there too.

Enjoy the rest of the trip,
    Christine.
